5 Ways To Stay Cool In The Heat

No doubt about it, it's HOT AF. The good news? We’ve got a few of our favorite self-care protips to keep you calm, cool, and cute in this summer heat!

Tip# 1: Try A Dab of Peppermint Oil
Dab a drop or two of peppermint essential oil on your pulse points (back of the neck, inside the wrist, collar bone, elbow bend, etc) for instant cooling of your hot zones. The fresh scent and cooling properties will chill you down like your own personal AC unit.

Tip #2: Stay Hydrated
It may seem simple but staying hydrated is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself cool (and healthy!) during the hottest temps. Sweating is good, and is your body cooling you down, but you’ve got to make sure you’re replacing those lost fluids. Drink water regularly and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. The best strategy? Small sips over time versus just chugging a whole bottle in one go like you were back in college.

Tip #3: Stay Cool With A Scrub
A good exfoliating scrub can prep your skin for the hot temps and help skin that feel light and refreshed. A gentle scrub in a cool shower will rid your skin of dry, dead cells and is one of the easiest ways to ensure that your pores remain uncongested and your skin stays luminous and soft. Excessive oil and congestion of the pores can also make your skin feel dull and heavy make your body’s natural cooling process tougher.

Tip #4: Keep Your Skin Cool
In addition to the previously mentioned peppermint oil trick, applying cold compresses to your skin (forehead, chest, back of the neck) helps to lower your overall body and core temperature to cool you down. If you’re outdoors, a quick spritz or two of cold water on your face can do wonders too.

Tip #5: A Cold Shower
Sometimes you’ve gotta go all in. Not just for teenagers, the benefits of cold plunging and cold showers are numerous, especially during the hot temperatures. A brisk, refreshing way to help lower your core body temperature and promote cooling, it’s worth the few minutes of suffering as you’ll instantly feel cool, refreshed, and alert.
